On the launch of a campaign to fight domestic violence entitled: “Violence-Free Family – Violence-Free Society!”
Between 15 October and 25 November of this year, Promo-LEX, in partnership with the Office of the Ombudsman, and Ombudsman Tudor Lazar, launch a campaign against violence in the family: “Violence-Free Family – Violence-Free Society!” The media partner of the campaign is public broadcasting company Teleradio-Moldova.
The campaign begins on October 15, on the International Day of Rural Women, and will be completed on November 25, when the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is marked.
During this period, employees of the national body for the protection and promotion of human rights and Promo-LEX will meet with groups of citizens in several areas of the country, and will inform them about the legal mechanisms to protect victims of domestic violence. Journalists, people who have publicly recognition and appreciation, and psychologists will tackle the impact of domestic violence on victims, children, families and society in general, gender prejudices and stereotypes that encourage domestic violence.
Employees of the Ombudsman Office will meet with police officers in several districts of the country and discuss with them the problems they face while addressing violent conflicts in families and securing access to justice for victims of domestic violence.
During the campaign, lectures will be held in higher education institutions on the topic of domestic violence. In total, over 25 activities of legal education of the population on the topic of domestic violence and victim protection measures, and raising public awareness of the need to firmly combat the scourge.
The campaign was launched at a press conference which took place Wednesday, on October 15, at 10:00 hours, in the meeting room of the Office of the Ombudsman (Center for Human Rights in Moldova), 16 Sfatul Tarii St.
Activities included in the campaign will end on November 25 with a meeting that will bring together representatives of central public institutions in charge with preventing and combating domestic violence, international organizations, NGOs promoting women’s rights, representatives of centers or shelters for domestic violence victims and perpetrators. The discussions will serve as starting points for developing proposals designed to eliminate barriers in the mechanisms to prevent and combat domestic violence, which will later be sent to the authorities.
